Problems with loud engine and exhaust noise on Citroen C2, model year 2003

Hey guys, I have a strange situation with my Citroen C2, gasoline engine, year 2003. Recently it makes a lot of noise when the engine is cold and the exhaust is also louder than usual. Somehow I have the suspicion that this could be due to the exhaust flap. Have any of you had similar experiences and could give me a few tips on what exactly could be causing this? How was the problem solved at your garage and what was your experience with it? Looking forward to your answers. Thanks in advance.

Summary of the thread

A Citroen C2 from 2003 is experiencing loud engine and exhaust noise, particularly when the engine is cold. The suspicion is that a defective exhaust flap might be the cause. A similar issue was resolved in another Citroen model by replacing the faulty exhaust flap, suggesting this could be a viable solution. The recommendation is to take the car to a garage for a thorough check to confirm the issue and proceed with necessary repairs.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Citroen C4. I would describe myself as someone with some experience in car maintenance. When the problem occurred, I took my car to the garage. After a thorough examination, it was found that the exhaust flap was defective. The repair cost me 190 euros. But to help you more accurately, it would be good to know more about your car. What is the model and the exact year of manufacture? How many kilometers has it run? What is the general condition of your car? Hope this helps you a little and we can help you better when we have more information.

Hey, my C2 is from 2003 and now has 4,1006 km on it. I've only recently had it serviced, so technically everything should be okay. Thanks for the info about the exhaust flap though, maybe that really is the problem. I'll probably have to take it to the garage after all...

Hey, no problem! Yes, it definitely sounds like it could be the exhaust flap. This can happen from time to time, especially in older cars. The 200 euros you should budget for the repair are a good investment. And if the car runs smoothly again afterwards, that's great. It's best to take it to the garage and have it checked. Maybe it's just something minor that can be fixed quickly. With my C4, it was actually this stupid flap... Very annoying, but good to know that it worked again afterwards. Keep us posted, I'd be interested to know what it really was in the end. Good luck and see you then!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! That reassures me a little. I'll probably go to the garage next week and have the whole thing checked out. And if it really is just the exhaust flap, I'll be relieved. I will of course keep you up to date and take your tips to heart. Thanks again and see you soon!
