Problems with Mercedes C Class (2007): Black smoke, starting problems and defective glow control unit?
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Mercedes C Class is experiencing issues such as black smoke during acceleration, delayed cold starts, non-functioning DPF regeneration, persistent pre-glow light, and shaking when idling. These symptoms suggest a possible defect in the glow control unit, a common issue in older vehicles. A similar case with a Mercedes E-Class pointed to the control unit as the cause, and repair was relatively inexpensive. The owner plans to consult a garage for diagnosis and hopes for a straightforward resolution.

Hi buddy, thanks for the quick reply! My Benz already has 173769 km on it and was last checked in the garage in November. Everything was going great until these problems came up. I also thought that it might be the control unit. 10 euros is a chunk, but don't worry, I can probably get over it. I just hope that it will soon be running smoothly again. Let's see what the garage has to say. Hopefully nothing serious! Many thanks for your help!

Moin moin! With such a high mileage, it can of course happen that one or the other part gives up the ghost. And as far as age is concerned, the control unit is a good idea - they tend to break down after 10-15 years. But as I said, I'm no expert! I hope it's nothing more serious and that the garage finds and fixes the problem quickly. It's always annoying when the car doesn't run as it should, especially when you're dependent on it. Keep your fingers crossed that the repair won't be too expensive and that your Benz will be back in shape quickly!

Hey, thanks for the encouragement! Yes, such old treasures have their own charm, even with quirks. I have to admit that I'm very attached to my Benz. I'm going to the garage tomorrow and hope for the best. I'll keep you up to date as soon as I know more. Thanks again for your advice and good wishes!

Hello, I once had a similar problem with my Mercedes E-Class (diesel, year of manufacture 2009). I'm not an expert, but I do know a bit about cars. After a bit of hesitation, I took the car to my garage. They then found out that the control unit was defective (according to their experience, this is the most common cause of faults). The repair cost me 10 euros. Unfortunately, it's difficult to say whether your problems have the same causes without more detailed vehicle information. Would be great if you could share more details about your vehicle so I can help.
