Problems with Mercedes GLA Class Diesel 2015: Check Engine lights up and possible cause - fuel filler flap position sensor
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Mercedes GLA Class Diesel is experiencing a check engine light and a warning light on the speedometer, with a suspected issue related to the fuel filler flap position sensor. The problem arose after refueling, suggesting a possible connection. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing a broken control unit, but this was costly. It is advised to check if the fuel filler cap is properly closed, as this can sometimes trigger warning lights. Ultimately, visiting a workshop for a precise diagnosis and error code check is recommended, with hopes that the issue is limited to the position sensor for a less expensive fix.

Hey, thanks for the tip! It could well be a problem with the control unit, yes. Unfortunately, I don't have the error codes to hand. I only know that it has something to do with the fuel flap sensor. My last inspection was at 151802 km and everything was still OK. So the whole thing is a bit suspicious. I just noticed that the warning lights only came on after refueling. Maybe it does have something to do with it? I'll probably have to take it to the garage after all. Do you have any other advice? Many thanks in advance!

Hey, no problem, happy to help. Well, the refueling thing does sound a bit suspicious. It could well be that the fuel filler flap position sensor is causing a fault. Have you tried whether the warning lights go out when you close the fuel filler cap properly? Sometimes minor problems such as a fuel filler cap that is not fully closed trigger these warning lights. But that's just a thought. And of course, the workshop is certainly the safest solution. They can check the error code and diagnose the problem more precisely. If it really is the control unit, it's a rather expensive affair, but if it's "only" the position sensor, it should be relatively cheaper. Let me know when you know more. Keep your fingers crossed!

Many thanks for your advice! Yes, I've already tried the fuel filler cap, but unfortunately that didn't change anything. I'll keep your suggestion in mind though and tell the people at the garage. I was already thinking that the control unit could be an expensive issue...really hope it's just the position sensor. I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more. Thanks again for the help!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2013 Mercedes GLC Class Diesel. I'm not a car guru, but I do have a bit of experience. In my case, the control unit was broken. I took my car to the garage, they replaced the part and voilà, everything was fine again. But it also cost me a hefty 1000 euros. Do you think it could be the same problem? Do you know which error codes were stored? With a little more information, I might be able to help you better.
