Problems with oil pressure and metal shavings in the oil in a 2015 T6 VW Diesel
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2015 T6 VW diesel is experiencing issues with the oil light coming on, metal shavings in the oil, and a warning light on the speedometer, suggesting low engine oil pressure. Possible causes include a defective cable connection to the oil pressure switch or a faulty oil pump drive, with the latter being a more serious issue common in T5 and T6 models. Solutions involve checking and potentially repairing the cable connection or replacing the oil pump drive to prevent engine damage. Immediate attention from a garage is advised to resolve the problem effectively.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My T6 has just clocked up 85432 km and this is the first time I've had this problem. I hadn't considered the fault in the cable connection to the switch before, thanks for the tip! I thought it might be something more serious because of the metal shavings in the oil... I'll definitely take it to the garage soon and have them check it out. Hopefully it won't cost me too much!

Hey, I can totally relate to this, I had a similar experience with my old T5 diesel. The metal shavings really do indicate a serious problem. In my case, they were actually signs of a faulty oil pump drive. The garage said at the time that the problem was quite common in the T5 and T6 models after a certain mileage. It was a bit more expensive than a simple cable repair, but it was definitely necessary as otherwise the metal shavings could damage the engine. It's really smart of you to get it checked quickly. In my case, replacing the oil pump drive was ultimately the solution. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get it resolved quickly and without too much expense!

Hi, thanks for your reply and your experience! A faulty oil pump drive sounds like a serious problem... I will definitely bring this up with my garage and see if they can look into this particular component. Of course, it's a shame to hear that the problem is more common in the T5 and T6 models... But I really appreciate being warned and knowing exactly what to ask for! I hope the cost is limited, but the main thing is of course that the car runs smoothly again afterwards. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2013 VW T5 diesel. The garage solved it, it was the cable connection to the switch that was defective. It cost me €95 to have it all repaired. But unlike you, I didn't have chips in the oil. But as I said, I'm not a mechanic. Maybe you could give me a few more details about your car? Mileage, whether you've had anything similar before and the like. Then I might be able to help you better.
