Problems with overheating and coolant level in a 2018 BMW 2 Series Diesel
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2018 BMW 2 Series Diesel is experiencing overheating and a low coolant level, with an indicator light on the speedometer. The low coolant level is suspected to be the cause. A suggested solution is to top up the coolant and check for leaks, as this resolved a similar issue in another BMW. If the problem persists, further inspection may be necessary to avoid costly repairs.

Hey, thanks for your interest! No fault was found at my last inspection about 47590 km ago and since then I've only been around town, mainly driving to and from work. I was actually hoping it was just something minor and not an expensive endeavor like yours....

Hey, no problem, we're here to help each other, right? Too bad your problem wasn't found at the last check though. I assume you've already topped up and the light still won't go out? I had the same problem with my 2017 BMW 2 Series diesel, the warning light just wouldn't go out. And yes, in my case it was ultimately also the coolant level that was too low. I then topped up the coolant and the problem was gone. Would definitely recommend trying this first before you get involved in expensive repairs. If the low coolant level really is the problem, you should also check (or have checked) if there is a leak somewhere, just to be on the safe side. Hopefully it's just that and nothing more expensive. Keep your fingers crossed, buddy! Let me know here when you know more.

Hello, thank you very much for your quick and helpful reply. I've already topped up the coolant a bit, but the light was still on afterwards and it still overheats so quickly. I think I'll take the advice and top up the coolant level first before worrying about expensive repairs. Hopefully it's just that and nothing worse as you say. I'll definitely get Uwe to check it out if topping up the coolant doesn't fix the problem. Thanks again for sharing your experience with me. I'll keep you up to date!

Hey buddy, that sounds a lot like my old 2016 BMW 3 Series gasoline engine. I'm not a car mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience around cars. In my case, it was a sporadic error in the communication between the control units. It cost me just over 900 euros to get it fixed. Some vehicle information might help to give you more detailed advice. Have you been driving anywhere else recently?
