Problems with overheating and engine indicator light on Ford B Max model year 2016 - Possible defect in the coolant temperature sensor
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A Ford B Max from 2016 is experiencing constant overheating and an illuminated check engine light, leading to a suspicion of a faulty coolant temperature sensor. The problem could also be related to the engine control unit or leaks in the cooling system. It is advised to take the car to a garage promptly to prevent potential engine damage, as addressing the issue early could be more cost-effective than replacing the engine.

Hey, thanks for the tip! I brought the car in for its last service just over a month ago and since then I've driven 70700 km. In addition to the engine control light, the warning light for the coolant temperature is also illuminated. Unfortunately, that's all I can say at the moment. Do you think this could still indicate the engine control unit? If it's really that expensive, I'll probably have no choice but to take it to the workshop...

Hey, I'm glad my answer was helpful. So if the coolant temperature warning light is also on, it could actually be the engine control unit. But of course without checking it, you can't say for sure. The coolant temperature sensor could also be a problem, as well as any leaks in the cooling system. In my C Max it was definitely the engine control unit, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the same problem in your B Max. Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend that you take the car to the garage as soon as possible before the engine suffers serious damage. Even though it can be expensive, it's ultimately cheaper than having to buy a new engine. Good luck and let us know what the garage says!

Hey, thanks again for your reply! Your advice makes perfect sense and I'll have the car checked at the garage tomorrow. You're right, the cost of a new engine control unit is of course annoying, but it's certainly better than a new engine. I'll keep you posted on what comes out of the workshop. Thanks for taking the time to help me. It's a really stupid situation, but I'll just hope for the best.

Hi, I drive a 2014 Ford C Max, also a petrol engine, and had a similar problem. As a car fan with a bit of experience, I naturally started by doing it myself. But after I discovered that the engine control unit was faulty, I had to go to the garage. In the end, it cost 1000 euros to fix the problem. Really annoying, but now it runs like clockwork again. To help you more, it would be really good if you could tell me which warning lights are still on or if you have any other information about your vehicle. Any further details could be helpful to better assess the problem. I hope I was able to help a little!
