Problems with overheating and engine light on Citroen Berlingo 2005 - possible fault with the controlled air flap

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Citroen Berlingo, year of manufacture 2005, gasoline engine. It is overheating and the engine light is on. I think it could be a malfunction of the controlled air flap. Has anyone ever had something like this and can give me tips on how they solved it in the workshop? Your experience would be really helpful. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Citroen Berlingo is experiencing overheating and an engine light issue, suspected to be due to a malfunctioning controlled air flap. A similar issue in another vehicle was caused by a defective wiring harness of the radiator shutter. It is suggested to read the fault memory to identify error codes, as the problem might be a minor sensor issue or related to the radiator. The owner plans to have the fault memory checked at a garage to determine the exact cause.

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Citroen C3. I have some experience with cars, but I'm not a professional. At my garage, they found that the wiring harness of the radiator shutter was defective/rubbed up, which is located behind the bumper. They repaired it and I paid 215 euros for it. It could be similar for you but without further details of your car, I can't say for sure. Have you had the fault memory read? What error codes were found? Are there any other symptoms? This would help to pinpoint the problem more precisely.

Hey, thanks for your answer. I last serviced my Berlingo at 109178 km and the problem has been occurring ever since. With the fault memory... you have a good point there, I haven't had that done yet. I will definitely do that soon and then see if an error code appears. At the moment I can't see any other symptoms at all, just the overheating and the engine light coming on. Hopefully it's nothing serious. Thanks again, really helpful!

Hey, no problem, that's what the community is for. If you say that the problem has been occurring since the last service, it could actually just be an error that occurred when you reset the services. But since the car is overheating, I would definitely have the fault memory read out. It could be that it's not a big deal and just some sensor has been acting up. It would be good if it was just that, because it's usually relatively easy to solve. Maybe it's also something with the temperature sensor or the radiator. Be sure to keep us posted on what comes out of the troubleshooting. Good luck!

Yes, it could be... I've got an appointment at the garage soon and I'll address the issue with the fault memory. Hopefully the problem really is just a faulty sensor or something. I'll definitely report back what comes out of it. Thanks again for your support and advice, really cool of you! See you later!
