Problems with overheating and illuminated check engine light on Toyota Camry 2007 - Possible cause and solutions?

Hey guys, I'm having problems with my 2007 Toyota Camry with a gasoline engine. It overheats and the check engine light is constantly on. Could the problem possibly be with the auxiliary coolant pump? Have any of you ever had something like this and how did you finally solve it in the workshop? It would be great if you could share your experiences and tips. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I don't have much experience, but I had a similar problem with my 2005 Toyota Avensis. At my garage, it turned out that the cable connection was defective. The repair cost me 170 euros. What about your coolant temperature and the coolant pump display when the engine is running? Did the diagnostic device display any error messages? The more information I have, the better I may be able to help you.

Hi, thank you very much for your answer. My mileage is 91725 KM km. The diagnostic device does indeed indicate a fault with the coolant pump. The water temperature also seems to be higher than usual after long periods of driving. At my last service about a month ago, everything seemed fine. I guess I should have it checked by a mechanic to be on the safe side. Defective cable could also be the problem, thanks for the tip!

Hello again! Glad to hear that my reply was helpful. Given the symptoms and error messages you've reported, there does seem to be a problem with the coolant pump. You're probably right and it would be best to have it checked by a mechanic. It could be a fault with the pump itself, or it could be a problem with the cable connection as in my Avensis. Both possibilities could lead to overheating and the check engine light coming on. Please keep us posted and let us know what the garage says. Good luck!

Hey, thank you for your detailed information. Your advice has helped me a lot. I will book myself an appointment at the garage and they will certainly check it out. I hope it's nothing serious and won't be too expensive. I'll definitely let you know what comes out in the end. Thanks again for your support and keep driving your Avensis!
