Problems with Peugeot 206 Diesel: Black smoke and lack of power
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Peugeot 206 Diesel is experiencing black smoke from the exhaust, a warning light, and a lack of power when accelerating. The suspected cause is a heavily loaded or defective diesel particulate filter (DPF), as regeneration is not functioning and the exhaust emits a strong smell. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle checked by a garage to confirm the issue and determine the necessary repairs.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I was also afraid that it could be the DPF... The mileage is already at 196128 KM and the last service was about six months ago. I probably won't be able to avoid having it checked by the garage. Well, we'll see what they say and whether it will be as expensive. Thanks again for the advice!

No stress, always happy! I had already looked for that with the mileage. It could well be that the DPF is simply finished with the high mileage. And the service was a while ago, so it would fit. Of course, I hope for your sake that it might not be quite so expensive. But the way you describe it, it sounds a lot like a problem with the DPF. It's best to have it checked at the garage. And please let us know what you find out! Good luck with it!

Hey, thanks for the encouraging words and sympathy! I will be taking the car to the garage next week and of course hope that it won't be too costly. Your advice was very helpful and really gave me some direction. I will definitely let you know what the diagnosis is. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Hello and greetings! I'm not a professional, but I have some experience with cars. I had a similar problem with my 2004 Peugeot 306 diesel. My car also had this strong smell and black smoke came out of the exhaust when accelerating. I took it to my garage and they found that the diesel particulate filter (DPF) was internally defective. The necessary repair was unfortunately not cheap and cost around 1550 euros. That's a lot of money, of course, but since then my Peugeot has been running like a champ again. I would recommend that you also take your car to a garage that can investigate the exact problem. Can you give us more details about your vehicle? What is the mileage and when was the last service carried out? This might help us to give you better advice. Good luck with that!
