Problems with Renault Trafic 2019: warning light, overheating and low coolant level - suspected defective PTC heater

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Renault Trafic, diesel, model year 2019. Strange symptoms have appeared: a warning light in the speedometer, overheating and low coolant level. I suspect it could be a faulty function of the PTC heater. Have you had similar experiences and if so, how did you solve the problem and what did the garage say? I would appreciate any tips and your experiences.

Summary of the thread

A Renault Trafic 2019 is experiencing issues with a warning light, overheating, and low coolant levels, suspected to be caused by a defective PTC heater. Similar symptoms were resolved in another vehicle by replacing the electric auxiliary heater. It is suggested to check both the electric auxiliary heater and the thermostat, and to obtain a repair estimate from a garage.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Renault Megane, diesel, built in 2017. I'm not a car expert, but I have some experience with cars. I went to my garage and they found that the electric auxiliary heater was faulty. They repaired it for me and it cost me 350 euros. Could you perhaps give more details about your vehicle? Do you know the exact fault code or when exactly the symptoms occur and how your car reacts to them? Just so I can better understand if it's exactly the same problem.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! Unfortunately, I don't know the exact error code, but I will ask the garage about it. The symptoms usually occur when I drive longer distances. The car starts to jerk and sometimes loses power. My last inspection was about 20000 km ago, i.e. at 103109 km. Since then I have 123109 km on the odometer. Hope this helps you, thanks again!

Hey, no problem! Your symptoms sound to me like a similar problem that I had. During longer journeys, mine also experienced a loss of power and sometimes jerking. I also took it to the garage at the time. They replaced my electric auxiliary heater and I haven't had any further problems since. My inspection was also around 20000 km back, so similar to yours. As you say that the symptoms usually occur when you drive longer distances, it could also be the thermostat. But the garage will be able to tell you better. It's best to ask about the electric auxiliary heater and the thermostat the next time you're there. You might even be able to get a quote before you decide to have it repaired. I hope this helps you!

Hey, great! Your long experience with cars really helps me. I'll definitely question the electric auxiliary heater and thermostat next time I'm at the garage. Getting an estimate before the repair sounds like a good idea too. Your information had a great contribution, thanks for that! I'll hope for the best next time I visit the garage and will keep you posted.
