Problems with Seat Leon 2017: Exhaust odor, loss of power, unstable engine running and black smoke

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Stalling while idling

Poor fuel economy

Engine shuts off by itself

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey guys! I currently have a strange problem with my petrol Seat Leon from 2017. It smells strongly of exhaust fumes, has a loss of power and often just shuts off. The engine runs rough, it jerks when accelerating and the fuel consumption is high. I have also noticed black smoke and the check engine light is illuminated. I'm thinking of a possible fault with the fuel pump, but before I go to the garage, I wanted to get your opinion. Have any of you ever had similar experiences with a problem like this? What was the solution from your workshop? I look forward to any helpful answers.

Hi, I drive a 2015 Seat Ibiza, had a similar problem. I'm not a car specialist but have some experience with car repairs. My garage diagnosed a fault with the fuel pump module, which matches your symptom description exactly. The repair cost me 640 euros. However, there could be other factors involved, so it would be helpful if you could give a few more details about your car - model variant, mileage etc. That might help me help you even better. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick reply and the help! My Leon now has 65310 km on the clock and was last serviced just under six months ago. Good that you mentioned the fuel pump module, sounds similar to my symptoms. The price of the repair is a bit high, but what can you do, it just has to work. Anyway, you've helped me a lot! I'm now planning a visit to the workshop.

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help! Yes, the repair costs can sometimes really suck, but it's better than being on the road with an unsafe car. In my opinion, with your 2017 Leon and just under 65,000 km, it could really be the fuel pump that's giving you a hard time. It's good that you're planning a visit to the garage. Have it checked properly and please keep us up to date. Good luck with your car and hopefully the problem will be fixed soon. Safety always comes first.

Hey, thanks for your advice and encouragement. I totally agree with you, safety is the most important thing and I want to make sure my car is in the best condition. I will definitely report back what the garage says and how it goes from here. Thanks again and nice to have such helpful people here.
