Problems with Skoda Kodiaq Diesel - Troubleshooting and workshop experience wanted

Hello, repair professionals! My Skoda Kodiaq Diesel (built in 2018) has been doing some really strange things recently. The preheating light stays on all the time, black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating and the check engine light is also on. It also takes much longer to start when cold and sometimes it won't start at all. I now also find my fuel consumption far too high and the DPF regeneration doesn't seem to work properly either. I suspect that it could be a faulty glow plug, but I'm not sure. Do you have any experience with such problems or specific troubleshooting tips? How did you have this solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? I would appreciate any tips!

Hi, I know this too well. I had a similar problem with my 2016 Skoda Superb Diesel. I wouldn't claim to be a car expert, but I do have some experience with cars. In my case, the problem was that the glow plug wiring harness/plug was faulty. I took the car to my favorite garage and they diagnosed the fault. It cost me around 395 euros to fix it. If you have any further questions or need more details, I'll need some specific information about your vehicle, such as model variant or engine, so I can help you more specifically. Are you recording the error message from the on-board computer or are you getting any error codes? This information can be incredibly useful and I can then tell you more. All the best for you and your Kodiaq!

Hi, thank you for the valuable tips. My Kodiaq has now covered 31364 km and the last inspection was a few months ago. I've hardly ever had any error messages and there were no error codes to be seen. The model variant is the Ambition Plus with 2.0 TDI. I guess it will probably come down to a fault diagnosis... But do you know if there could be any other causes before I do this?

Hello again! It's always a bit difficult to make an exact diagnosis from a distance, especially without error codes. But with your additional information, I may be able to shed a little more light on the problem. Actually, it sounds very much like a problem with the glow plugs and/or the wiring harness. The symptoms are pretty consistent with this. If it's not just one, but several glow plugs, that could explain why your Kodiaq is starting so badly and why the preheating light is constantly on. The black clouds of smoke and the high fuel consumption could in turn indicate a problem with the combustion, which would also be consistent with a defective DPF regeneration. These are the correlations that I see. However, there are of course other possible causes. For example, it could also be a problem with the turbocharger or the injection system. A software update would be conceivable here, for example, or an actual repair/replacement of parts. But as I said before, this is something that a specialist workshop can definitely assess better. In any case, I would advise you to have it checked by a specialist workshop as soon as possible. Problems like this can seriously damage the engine in the long term. Good luck and all the best for your Kodiaq!

Hello again and thanks for the detailed answer! You've definitely mentioned a few important points that I'll look out for. I hadn't even thought about the turbocharger, I was really thinking more about the glow plugs. But as you say, I'd better get it checked out by a specialist garage as soon as possible. Thanks also for the wish for luck, I can probably use that for the repair! Thanks again for the effort and the tips!

I know the error, I did something myself, the error occurred 5000 kilometers ago, but I can't delete the error with Carly even though the error is no longer present
