Problems with starting a Skoda Karoq 2019 - Possible immobilizer malfunction

Hey everyone, I have a problem with my Skoda Karoq, year of manufacture 2019, gasoline engine. Somehow the car won't start and when it does start, it goes straight off again. I think it could possibly be an immobilizer malfunction. Have you had similar experiences or any troubleshooting tips? I would be particularly interested to hear how you have solved such problems in your garage. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Skoda Karoq is experiencing starting issues, where the car either won't start or shuts off immediately after starting. The suspected cause is an immobilizer malfunction. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing a faulty key transponder. Other potential causes include a faulty fuel pump, but the battery appears to be functioning properly. Solutions suggested include consulting a garage for a transponder replacement or adjustment and considering locksmith assistance if the immobilizer is confirmed as the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Skoda Yeti, also petrol. I'm not a car specialist, but I do have some experience with this kind of thing. The problem was a faulty transponder in the key. I took the car to my garage and they replaced the transponder. It cost me 375 euros and then it ran like clockwork again. Could be the same for you. Can you tell me more about your symptoms? That way I could help you better. Maybe your car has other problems that we need to rule out first. Brief information about the battery would also be helpful. Hope that helps you for now!

Hi, thanks for your reply. I didn't have the key transponder as a cause in mind, could actually explain the problem. Regarding your question, well it seems like the engine is not getting enough fuel just after it starts. The battery is ok so far, no obvious problems with it. If it helps, the last time I did an inspection was at 15933 km. Thanks again for the food for thought with the transponder, I'll take it up with my garage.

Hey, I'm glad I could help you. It really sounds like the engine is not getting enough fuel. That could indicate a faulty fuel pump, but it's just an assessment. There seems to be nothing wrong with the battery. Given the mileage and year of manufacture of your car, nothing major should actually be broken. It would be great if you could give us an update after your visit to the workshop. I'm curious to know exactly what they find and what ultimately needs to be done. If it's the immobilizer, you can ask if you can call a locksmith as breakdown assistance. They can often readjust or replace the transponder. Hopefully you can get it fixed quickly and cheaply. Good luck!

Hello, thank you for the further insight! The fuel pump is definitely worth a look. I also didn't think that problems could occur with this year and mileage, but it can happen. Thanks for the tip about the locksmith, I'll keep that in mind in case it really is the immobilizer. Well then, off to the garage and hopefully it's nothing too bad. I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more. Thanks again for your help!
