Problems with starting and stopping an Opel Meriva (petrol engine, year 2015): Possible immobilizer problems and possible solutions

Vehicle starts briefly and goes out again

Car won't start

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my Opel Meriva (petrol engine, year 2015). It either won't start or only runs briefly and then goes out again. I suspect it could be a problem with the immobilizer. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me some troubleshooting tips? How did your garage solve the problem? Thank you in advance for your experience.

Hey, that actually sounds a lot like a problem I had with my Opel Astra (2013 model). Not an expert, but have a bit of experience with cars and their maintenance. I took it to the garage and they found that the immobilizer control unit and antenna were faulty. The repair cost me 365 euros. Never had any more problems after that. Could you perhaps provide a few more details about your car? Engine, mileage, etc., could help to give you more detailed information.

Thanks for your quick reply! Well, that sounds very much like my problem! My Meriva already has a whopping 173611 km on the clock and it was last serviced at the end of last year. Maybe it's just old? I'll take your advice to heart and visit a garage to have the control unit checked. Sounds like an expensive repair, but if it helps, I'm happy to pay for it. Thanks, man!

No problem, always happy to help! Yes, with the number of kilometers it could actually just be signs of age. But I would still have it assessed by a specialist before you consider replacing the car. Just to make sure it's not just a minor repair. And yes, the repair to the ECU and antenna can be a bit pricey, but if it solves the problem, it's worth every penny. Good luck and let's hear what the garage has to say!

Thank you, I will definitely do that! I'll take your advice to heart and see what the people at the garage say first. I just hope that the repair won't be too expensive. I'll keep you posted as soon as I know more. Thanks again for your help and the quick reply!
