Problems with the ABS function, power steering and steering wheel vibrations in the 2017 Mercedes AMG GT: experience and repair tips wanted

Vibrating/shaking steering wheel

Power steering without function

ABS/DSC system is not working

Hey guys, I recently noticed quite a problem with my 2017 Mercedes AMG GT, gasoline engine. ABS no longer works at all, the power steering has totally failed and the steering wheel vibrates and rocks like crazy. Somehow I suspect that it might be due to a fault in the steering angle sensor, but I'm not really sure. Have any of you ever experienced anything like this or have any tips as to what the problem might be? How did you get it repaired in the workshop and what was your experience? I would be really grateful for any help!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Mercedes E-Class, so not quite the same model, but some of the symptoms are similar. I only have a little experience with cars, so I'm not an expert. I took the car to the garage. The problem was actually the steering angle sensor. The exact diagnosis was "coding of the steering angle sensor faulty". The repair cost 195 euros. Could you tell me if you noticed any warning lights on the dashboard of your Mercedes AMG GT? It might help me understand your problem better and help you further.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! On my AMG GT, a red warning light did indeed come on and the steering assistance also failed at the same time. That's good food for thought with the steering angle sensor, I hadn't thought of that before. Incidentally, I had my last service at 78472 km. Maybe that has something to do with the current problem? It's always something new with the car. But it's good that there are communities like this one where you can exchange ideas. Thanks again for your help!

Hi, no problem, always happy to help! If a warning light comes on and the steering assistance has failed at the same time, this is definitely a sign that something is not running smoothly. In your case, the problem could actually be the steering angle sensor, especially as the symptoms are quite similar to those of my E-Class problem. As for servicing, you could say that it's always good to keep your car up to date. However, I can't tell you exactly whether the mileage is directly related to the current problem. Cars are just moody beasts sometimes. The costs I was charged could also apply to your AMG. It's always a good idea to call different garages and compare prices. I would recommend you go straight to the garage and have it checked to make sure. And please let us all know the outcome here. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing serious!

Hey, thanks again! Your information has really helped me. I'll take your advice to heart and take the car to the garage as soon as possible. Of course, I hope that the cause of the problems isn't that serious, but you never know. I also think it's a good idea to compare prices, so I'll see if I can find a good offer somewhere. I'll keep you posted and report what comes out of the investigation. Thanks again for the help, it makes me feel less alone with such problems!

It seems like your 2017 Mercedes AMG GT's ABS and power steering issues likely stem from a faulty steering angle sensor, ECU, or wiring problems. What I would do is run a diagnostic scan to check for any errors codes. If that does not help, you might need repairs that involve recalibrating or replacing sensors/modules. Additionally: You could check for warranties or recalls on this specific model.
