Problems with the ABS warning light in the VW Caddy Diesel 2010: Possible failure of the wheel speed sensor
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The ABS warning light in a 2010 VW Caddy Diesel is constantly on, indicating a potential failure of the wheel speed sensor. This issue was also experienced by another vehicle owner whose mechanic resolved it by replacing the faulty sensor. It is suggested that the same solution be applied to the VW Caddy Diesel. However, if the problem persists after sensor replacement, a professional mechanic should inspect the system for other potential issues such as wiring or ABS module faults.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Basically, it looks very similar to yours. The ABS/DSC system just doesn't work and the warning light stays on. No problem was found at the last inspection at 256417 km, so I assume it has occurred since then. The mech said it could be the sensor but he wasn't sure. Really hope it's not a big deal.

Hey, no problem! So if it's similar to mine, your ABS sensor could actually be the culprit. When my mechanic replaced the sensor, the problem stopped. Of course, I can't guarantee that it's exactly the same for you, but it certainly sounds like it. Especially if your mechanic also suspects the sensor. The cost of a new sensor and installation for me was around 250 euros, which can of course vary depending on the garage. The good thing is: I haven't had any consequential damage since then, and the ABS/DSC system has worked perfectly ever since. So I would perhaps consider replacing the sensor if you haven't already done so. I hope I've been able to help you!

Hello, without a doubt you have helped me a lot. Your explanation makes me feel relieved that it is not a huge problem. I'm going to follow your advice and get the sensor replaced. 250 euros is not exactly cheap, but the main thing is that it fixes the problem permanently and no further damage occurs. Thanks again for your help and advice!

Is the ABS sensor, how can I install it myself?
While it's possible to replace the ABS sensor yourself, it requires some technical knowledge and the right tools. You'll need to locate the sensor (usually near the wheel hub), remove the old one, and install the new one. However, it's crucial to remember that the ABS system is a critical safety feature of your vehicle. If you're not confident in your abilities, it's best to have this job done by a professional mechanic to ensure it's done correctly. If you decide to proceed, please let us know how it goes. Do you have any other questions?

I would be interested to know whether it is the front or rear sensor

I would be interested to know whether it is the front or rear sensor
The ABS warning light doesn't specify which sensor is faulty, it could be either front or rear. A diagnostic scan tool can help identify which sensor is causing the issue. If you don't have access to one, a professional mechanic or auto parts store may be able to help you with this. Once you know which sensor is faulty, you can proceed with the replacement. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?

Hello, I have had similar experiences with my 2008 VW Golf. I also have a VW Passat, but it hasn't had this problem yet. I would consider myself someone with some experience when it comes to cars. My ABS sensor (actually the wheel speed sensor) was also faulty and this caused the same symptoms as yours. My mechanic replaced the sensor and ran some tests to make sure the ABS/DSC system was working properly again. This cost me about 250 euros. It would be helpful if you could give me more precise vehicle data, then I could help you even more accurately. How exactly does the problem manifest itself in your case?
