Problems with the air conditioning in the BMW 3 Series, model year 2008 - looking for experience and tips
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2008 BMW 3 Series owner is experiencing an issue where the air conditioning only blows warm air. The suspected cause is the air conditioning compressor shutting down. A similar case in a BMW 5 Series involved a "sporadic faulty communication between control units," costing 955 euros to fix. Other potential causes include a leak in the A/C system or low coolant levels. The owner plans to visit a garage for a detailed diagnosis and hopes for a straightforward and cost-effective solution.

Hello, many thanks for the tip! My BMW has around 178000 km on the clock. It's also been a while since the last service. I think I'll follow your advice and take it to the garage to have the fault checked more closely. But of course 955 euros is not a lot of money... Thanks for your advice though! Greetings!

Hi, I'm glad I could help you with my experience! Sure, 955 euros is pretty steep, but remember that it includes the whole repair. If it really is just the air conditioning compressor, it could be cheaper. On my 5 Series, the bill also included other repairs. In general, I can tell you that in most cars it is rather rare for the air conditioning system to blow out warm air just because the air conditioning compressor has switched off. It could also be due to a leak in the A/C system or because the coolant needs to be topped up. Hopefully this will help you and the damage will be limited! Greetings back!

Hi, thanks for the additional information. Good to know that there could be other reasons why the air conditioning is only blowing out warm air. I certainly hope it's a bit easier (and cheaper) to fix. Your experience definitely puts my mind at ease. I'll probably make an appointment at the garage now. Thanks again for your help and advice! Greetings!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2010 BMW 5 series. So, I have a bit of experience with cars, but I'm not a professional. I took the car to the garage. They read the fault memory and found a "sporadic faulty communication between control units". The whole thing cost me 955 euros and now everything is working perfectly again. To be able to help you more precisely, could you perhaps give me more details about your vehicle? Best regards!
