Problems with the air conditioning in the VW Amarock 2015 diesel - experiences and repair costs?
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a problem with the air conditioning in a 2015 VW Amarok Diesel, suspected to be due to a faulty air conditioning control unit. This issue appears to be common in high-mileage vehicles, as similar problems were reported by others with different car models. Suggested solutions include checking fuses and wiring, and potentially replacing the air conditioning control unit, with repair costs varying from €200 to €600 depending on the workshop and parts used. The overall sentiment is that while the issue is manageable, it is important to be prepared for the associated costs.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2012 VW Golf, but mine has passed the 150,000 km mark. I can well understand your concerns, especially because of the potentially high repair costs. Good news though: in my case, it was also the blower unit that was spinning around, and it wasn't too much of an act. The mechanic only had to replace the unit and redo some cables. The whole repair was done pretty quickly. So don't worry, it certainly won't be too much of an issue and should be fairly easy to fix. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your feedback. Good to hear that it wasn't anything serious for you. Do you have any idea how much you paid for the repair? Did you have to come back in afterwards or has everything worked fine since? Thanks again for your help!

Hi, the air conditioning control panel was also broken in my car. They fixed it in the workshop without any problems. No further visits to the workshop have been necessary since then. Repairing a cable connection is usually not expensive, I'd estimate €100-200. At least that was the case with my Skoda Octavia Combi 2016 Diesel. Good luck!

Hey, so if I understand correctly, the cars with which the problem occurred have all been driven quite a lot. Your Amarok VW with almost 100,000 km, the Golf with over 150,000 km. So perhaps the defect in the air conditioning control unit is a more frequent problem, especially with high mileage. The costs seem to be in the region of around €200 for one or the other. So maybe do the math and hope for the best. My 2014 Ford Mondeo diesel with 120,000 km has been running smoothly so far, but it's good to know that this could be a potential problem. Hopefully it won't be too expensive for you!

Hello everyone, I had a similar problem with my Amarok, also a diesel from 2015. The fan wasn't working properly and it turned out that the air conditioning control unit was defective. At the workshop, they first checked the fuses and wiring to rule out other possible causes. The air conditioning control panel was then replaced. The total cost of the diagnosis and replacement of the air conditioning control panel was around 400 euros for me, with the part itself costing around 200 euros (used). It can of course vary depending on the workshop and region, but this should give you a rough guide. I hope this helps you and that your Amarok will soon be running smoothly again!

Hi there! I’m sorry to hear about your Amarok issues. I’ve had similar problems with mine. The workshop replaced the control unit for around €600. Have you noticed any other issues, like unusual noises or reduced cooling?

Hello everyone, thank you for your feedback and experiences. It's very helpful to hear that the repair is unlikely to require a second workshop visit and that the cost should remain under control. I'm reassured to hear that it seems to be a fairly common problem with high mileage vehicles and that it's manageable. I will now go to the garage and hope it goes smoothly on my Amarok too. I'll keep you posted and thanks again for your help!
