Problems with the check engine light and overheating in the Skoda Citigo (model year 2019) - looking for experiences and solutions

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hello everyone! The check engine light on my Skoda Citigo (model year 2019, petrol engine) has recently gone crazy and the car is overheating. Could it be due to a malfunction of the controlled air flap? Have you had similar experiences and how did your garage solve the problem? I look forward to any tips and reports on your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had the same problem with my Skoda Fabia (built in 2017, petrol). I'm not a car professional, but I've experienced a lot. The master mechanic at my garage looked at the heat management system and the diagnosis was "fuse defective". I paid 52 euros and then everything ran smoothly again. It may be a similar problem with your Citigo. But to give you more details, could you please tell me if you have noticed any other symptoms? Perhaps loss of power or unusual noises? This could help to narrow down the problem further.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Well, I have indeed noticed a loss of power, but I can't detect any unusual noises. I bought the Citigo new and have only driven 18532 km, so I haven't really needed to visit a garage yet. But I probably won't be able to avoid it now... Thanks for the tip about the fuse, I'll bring that up right away!

Hi, not being able to get away from it was what annoyed me the most back then. Nonetheless, why Skoda if not for its reliability, right? 😉 Now for your problem: well if you've noticed a loss of power too, it could definitely be the fuse. Heating can sometimes blow sensors or fuses, which can trigger the check engine light and also lose power. Be sure to talk to the workshop about this and have the engine faults read out in detail. By the way, has the coolant level been checked? If it is low, you may already have overheating problems, which in turn is causing your symptoms. Give it a try and let us know what comes out! Good luck!

Hello, thanks for the detailed information! I haven't checked the coolant level yet, but will do so immediately. Your explanation regarding the fuse and the heat problem also sounds logical. I'll definitely address everything when I'm at the garage. Thanks again for the help, I'll keep you posted. Hopefully everything can be resolved quickly and easily... Until then, thanks mate!
