Problems with the cruise control function on the 2013 Toyota Fortuner - looking for troubleshooting tips and experiences
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The 2013 Toyota Fortuner's cruise control function is malfunctioning, with an error detected in the memory. This issue might be due to a faulty control unit, as suggested by a similar experience with a 2011 Toyota Hilux. The recommended solution is to have the control unit checked by a professional mechanic, as it could be a minor fault that is relatively inexpensive to fix.

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Fortuner still has all the original parts, so no modifications or anything. The cruise control sometimes reacts, but most of the time it has just completely failed. It had its last service at 198317 KM. Sounds like I really should have the control unit checked. Thanks for the tip! Hope it won't be too expensive.

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! With the symptoms you describe, it does indeed sound like a problem with the control unit. It could be that it only works partially and therefore the cruise control sometimes reacts and sometimes not. Another indication could be the error in the memory, which points to a problem with the electronics. But as I said, before you get ready for high repair costs, a check in the workshop would really make sense. Sometimes it can be just a minor fault that is relatively cheap to fix. It's always better to be on the safe side. And just to emphasize it again: The price I mentioned was just for the repair of my car. Depending on how old your Toyota is and what the specific problem is, the cost may vary. Good luck and hope it doesn't turn out to be too expensive!

Hi, thanks again for the helpful information! I'll probably take it to the garage and have it checked. Hopefully the mechanic can fix it easily and it won't be as expensive as you've experienced. Wish me luck!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2011 Toyota Hilux, also a gasoline engine. To say it up front, I would describe myself as someone with intermediate car experience. The control unit in my car was faulty and I had to have it replaced at the garage. Unfortunately, the whole thing cost quite a lot, 1000€ to be precise. But before you panic, it would be helpful to know a few more details about your car so I can give you more specific advice. What model is it exactly? Does your car still have the original parts or have any modifications been made? Does the cruise control still respond at all or has it completely failed? In any case, I would recommend taking your car to a trustworthy garage and having the control unit checked. Sometimes it can be just a minor fault that a professional mechanic can fix. Good luck!
