Problems with the electronic steering column adjustment on the 2012 Toyota Hilux petrol engine
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers on a problem with the electronic steering column adjustment in a 2012 Toyota Hilux petrol engine. The issue is that the steering column cannot be adjusted in height, possibly due to a defect in the adjustment motor, while lateral adjustment functions correctly. A similar problem in a different vehicle was resolved by replacing a defective control unit, suggesting that a workshop diagnosis is necessary to determine the exact cause and ensure safety.

Hello, thank you for your reply. My Hilux already has 206,636 KM on the clock and the last service was about a year ago. The symptoms are that the steering column can no longer be adjusted in height and it seems as if the engine no longer works properly. The lateral adjustment, on the other hand, works perfectly. I hope this helps. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hey, thanks for the additional information. It was similar with my Tacoma, except that both adjustment options were affected. As previously mentioned, I would suspect a fault in the control unit or in the steering column adjustment motor. But the exact diagnosis can of course only be made in the workshop. I would advise you to have it checked, even if the repair costs can be high, but safety first. My repair cost around 1000 euros, but of course it may turn out differently for you. I hope I've been able to help you and that you get the problem under control soon. All the best!

Thanks for the helpful answer! I will take your advice and have the car taken to the garage to get it checked. It's just a bit frustrating as I've already spent a lot of money on repairs. But you're right, safety first. Thanks again for your help, I'm looking forward to hearing what the garage has to say. All the best to you too!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with a 2014 Toyota Tacoma. I'm not an expert, but I have a bit of experience with cars. In my case, the control unit was defective. I had to leave 1000 euros with my garage for the repair. It's always difficult to say exactly what the problem might be without having seen the car. Can you perhaps share a few more details about your car and the symptoms? That might help diagnose the problem more accurately.
