Problems with the engine and exhaust in a Peugeot 307 Diesel from 2007

Hi folks, my 2007 Peugeot 307 Diesel is having a few problems. The engine is extremely loud when it's cold and the exhaust is also quite noisy. I suspect it could be something with the exhaust flap. Has anyone ever experienced this and how did the garage solve it for you? It would be great if you could share your experiences. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Peugeot 307 Diesel is experiencing loud engine and exhaust noises, particularly when cold. The suspected cause is a defective exhaust flap, a common issue that can arise around 50,000 km. Cold weather may exacerbate the problem due to metal expansion and contraction. The suggested solution is to have the exhaust flap inspected and potentially repaired during the next vehicle service.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I don't have much experience with cars, but I remember a similar problem with my Peugeot 308 from 2009, when my exhaust flap was also defective. The guys at the garage quickly identified the fault and fixed it. The repair cost me around 190 euros. Which diesel engine do you actually have in your 307? In my 308 it was the 1.6 HDi - maybe it's similar for you and I can share a few more details.

Thanks for the info. I have the 2.0 HDi in my 307. Interesting to know that you've had the same problem before and that it was solved quickly. My mileage is a good 47293 km. Any chance you have any idea if the mileage could be related to that? Ah, and my last service was almost exactly a year ago. Cheers!

I'm glad the information was helpful. On my Peugeot it was at around 50000 km. So your mileage could well be related to this. I've heard that defective exhaust flaps often start to cause problems as soon as the vehicle has a few thousand kilometers on the clock. Of course, it could also be that they simply work more difficult in cold weather, as the metal expands and contracts. Having the last service a year ago doesn't sound unusual, but it's always a good idea to mention this at the next inspection. Let me know if you have any other questions or need more info. All the best!

Thanks for the quick reply and the additional information. That makes perfect sense with the mileage and the cold weather. I will follow your advice and address the problem at the next inspection. You have helped me a lot! Thanks again, I'll get back to you if I have any more questions! Until then, take care!
