Problems with the engine control light and possible faults in the tank ventilation system on Seat Cordoba petrol engine 2005

Shaking while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Stalling while idling

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Hi, I have a problem with my Seat Cordoba petrol engine from 2005. The check engine light is on, the engine has lost power, runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating and sometimes dies when idling. It also feels like it is shaking when stationary. I think it could be the fuel tank ventilation system fault. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me troubleshooting tips? How did your garage solve the problem? I would be grateful for any experience.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Seat Ibiza Diesel. I'm not a mechanic, I just have a bit of experience with cars. So I can tell you that I took my car to the garage and they found that the engine control unit was faulty (but this really only happens in very rare cases). The repair cost me 1000 euros. Sometimes the easiest way is to let an expert do the work. Have you ever tried reading your fault memory? That might provide more details.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. No, I haven't read out the fault memory yet. Good idea, I'll give that a try. Maybe I'll find the fault that way. By the way: my Cordoba already has 182468 km on the clock and the last service was about a year ago. That's probably why I'm not so surprised that problems are now appearing. But 1000 euros is quite a lot, hopefully it's not the engine control unit in my case...

Hey, sure, no problem. With this mileage and the age of the car, things can break - it's just a fact of life. I hope it's not the engine control unit either! Maybe reading the fault memory will give you a clue as to what might be going on. But to get back to your original question: When I had this tank venting system fault in conjunction with similar symptoms, the problem was that the valve was stuck. I took my car to an independent garage and they replaced it. It cost me about 200 euros. So it could be a possibility that it's the valve in your case too. Good luck with the fault memory readout, let us know what comes out of it!

Hey, thanks again for your help and information. Yes, things can break in a car with so many kilometers. The valve sounds annoying, but it's still better than a broken engine control unit. I'll try reading out the fault memory and get back to you. I hope I can fix it! Bye and see you soon.
