Problems with the engine start-stop system and high fuel consumption in Opel Combo 2014

Hello everyone, I have problems with my Opel Combo Gasoline, built in 2014. The car won't start, consumes a lot of fuel, the indicator light in the speedometer is on and the lights flicker or are dark. I suspect that the engine start-stop system is defective. Have any of you ever had similar problems? If so, how did you get it fixed at the garage and what were your experiences? I would be grateful for any tips!

Summary of the thread

The Opel Combo 2014 is experiencing issues with starting, high fuel consumption, and flickering lights, with suspicions pointing towards a defective engine start-stop system. Possible causes include a faulty control unit or other malfunctions within the start-stop system. Suggested solutions include using an OBD2 scanner to diagnose the problem accurately and potentially repairing or replacing the start-stop system, which could cost around 500 euros.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello everyone, I have a bit of experience with cars, but definitely no professional knowledge. I once had a similar case with my Opel Astra, built in 2012. It turned out that the control unit was defective. I then went to my local garage and they replaced it and checked a few other things. Cost me 1000.0 euros. Quite expensive fun, but after that everything ran smoothly again. To help you more accurately, could you provide some additional information, e.g. have any error messages appeared on the on-board computer? Have you ever run the OBD2 scanner? It might also be helpful to know the exact model and trim level of your Opel Combo. Perhaps there are known problems with the control unit or the start-stop system for certain models.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! So mine has now done 196760 km, the last service was recently. No errors have popped up on the on-board computer. And I don't have the OBD2 scanner, but I could organize one if that helps. My Combo is a basic model, nothing fancy. Hope someone can do something with this information.

Hi Person1, sure, that helps! With a mileage of almost 200,000 km, many parts can of course cause problems. The OBD2 scanner would be really great if you could organize it. It often gives far better indications of the problems. However, I once owned an Opel Combo, model 2014, similar equipment to yours and had similar problems. In my case, it was actually the engine start-stop system. Also had malfunctions everywhere at the time. Eventually had to have it repaired in the workshop, which cost around 500 euros. However, I would still recommend doing the OBD2 scan just to make sure that it really is the engine start-stop system. It could also be a combination of several faults, but you can't be sure of that until you go to the workshop. Hope this helps you and good luck!

Hello, thank you for all the information, really helpful! You're probably right that it could be the engine start/stop system. I will definitely have the OBD2 scan done. The price for the repair isn't cheap, but if the car runs smoothly again afterwards, it would be worth it. I'll let you know as soon as I've been to the garage and the cause has been found. Hopefully it's nothing major. Thanks again and see you then!
