Problems with the gearshift and warning light in the Audi A8 Diesel (2011): Looking for experiences and suggested solutions

Hey guys, I'm having some strange problems with my Audi A8 Diesel (2011 model year). The gearshift is slipping unusually and I've seen a warning light in the speedometer. I suspect the switch for the parking position of the automatic transmission could be faulty. Do any of you have experience with this and can give me some troubleshooting tips? Would also be interested to hear how your garage fixed the problem and what they did to fix it. Thank you!

Hi, I recently had a similar problem with my Audi A6 Diesel (built in 2009). I wouldn't call myself a super expert, but I do have some experience with cars. My garage mechanic also identified a faulty parking switch. It was a bit complicated, but in the end they replaced the switch. It cost me a total of 410 euros. So, quite expensive, but now everything is working perfectly again. To identify the problem, it might help if you tell us a bit more about your car. How many kilometers it has done, what maintenance has been carried out, etc. Maybe then I can help you better. I hope this helps you a little!

Hi, thanks for the tip! My car has done 145600 km and the last inspection was recently. No further maintenance has been carried out since then. Replacing the switch might actually be a solution. I was hoping that there might be a less expensive way, but that seems unlikely. Thanks for your help anyway!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! In fact, replacing the switch is probably the most reliable solution to your problem. Unfortunately, this is the case with most car parts - once they give up the ghost, a repair is usually not possible or sensible. The good news is that such a defect is usually a one-off. Once it's been replaced, you shouldn't usually have any further problems with the gearshift. Good luck with it and let me know if you have any further questions!

Great, thanks for your valuable advice! I think I'll go to the garage and have the switch replaced. I'm reassured to know that the problem should probably be solved after that. I'll be in touch if I need any more information. Thanks again, you've really helped me!
