Problems with the headlight cleaning system on Citroen C4 model year 2013 due to low wiper fluid level

Hi guys, I have a bit of a strange problem with my 2013 Citroen C4. The headlight washer system is acting up and I think it may be due to the low level of wiper fluid. Has anyone had similar experience and can give me any tips? I would be particularly interested to know if and how the garage was able to solve this in your case. Many thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Citroen C4 owner is experiencing issues with the headlight washer system, suspecting it might be due to low wiper fluid levels. A similar problem in another Citroen model was linked to faulty communication between control units, which was costly to repair. Suggested solutions include topping up the wiper fluid and having the fault memory read at a garage to diagnose the issue accurately.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Citroen C3. I only have some experience with cars, but maybe I can still help a little. I once had a similar problem with my girlfriend's car, a Citroen Picasso. At the garage, they found that it was a sporadic faulty communication between control units and it cost 955 euros to repair. Can you give me more information about your car, for example exact model name or when the problem occurred? Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your reply and your help. So, the problem occurred about two weeks ago. It's a C4, gasoline engine and already has 157k on the clock. The last service was a few months ago, but I don't think it's related to that. You mean it could be a fault between the control units? Well, maybe I really should take it to the garage. But 955 euros sounds pretty expensive...

Well, that sounds like a well-maintained C4, despite the many kilometers on the speedometer! Your problem reminds me of the one with my C3. In my case, it was also due to a defect between the control units. If I were you, I would definitely pay a visit to the garage. It's annoying, but safety first, right? And who knows, maybe it's something simpler in your case and won't be quite so expensive. Try having the fault memory read out, that could provide some information. And another thing: If the wiper fluid level is low, the headlight cleaning system can actually cause problems. So it's better to top it up and see if it improves. Good luck and keep me posted on how it goes!

Hi, thanks for the advice. Reading out the fault memory makes sense, I'll give that a try. I'll also top up the wiper fluid straight away. Hopefully the repair won't be quite so expensive. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your help!

Hello everyone, Normally the headlight washer should stop working at a certain level so that the windshield can always be cleaned. Does the problem go away when you top up? Greetings Daniel
