Problems with the high-voltage system and electrics in the Opel Ampera Diesel 2016 - experiences and suggested solutions wanted

General electric malfunction

Problem with the HV-System

Loss of engine power

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hi folks, my Opel Ampera Diesel (built in 2016) has been acting up for a while now. The high-voltage system is spinning, the engine power is dropping and the battery is dying when starting. Apart from that, there are some general electrical problems. Does anyone have any idea whether the fault in the high-voltage system could be causing this trouble? And how did you solve it? I really need some tips and would like to know your experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Opel Insignia Diesel (built in 2014). It's not exactly in the same year, but maybe my experience will help you a bit anyway. I would describe myself as someone with some experience when it comes to cars, but I definitely don't feel like an expert yet. In my case, the problem was a faulty part in the high-voltage system. I took my car to the garage and the mechanics were able to diagnose and fix the problem quite quickly - luckily, because it didn't cost me a penny! It could be similar for your Ampera, but to give you more specific advice, it would be good if you could give a few more details about your vehicle. Are there specific situations in which the problems occur? How often does the problem occur? Has the vehicle ever been in the workshop because of the problem?

Hi, I really appreciate your quick reply. It's always good to hear from someone who has had similar problems. With my wonderful Ampera, the problem always occurs when I drive longer distances, especially on highways. It happens quite often, unfortunately. I recently had my car in the garage because it had reached its 113495 km mark and I wanted to give it a service. They couldn't really pinpoint the problem though. It seems like no one really has a clue what's wrong. Maybe I should see a specialist?

Of course! It's always good to get a second opinion. If the mechanics at the garage weren't able to pinpoint the problem, a specialist in high-voltage systems may be just what you need. I remember my Insignia having similar problems - especially on long journeys. My battery was weakening and the engine wasn't running smoothly. It turned out that the high voltage system was faulty and affecting the electrics. They had to replace a few parts and then it drove like new again. I hope this is the case with your Ampera too! Do you still have a warranty on your car? That could help reduce the cost of the repair. Either way, please don't leave it undone. A faulty high-voltage system can be dangerous and should be repaired as soon as possible. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it gets resolved quickly!

Hello, thanks again for your tips. Unfortunately, my warranty has expired, so this option is no longer available. But I guess I have no choice and have to take it in hand now. It sounds like a specialist in high-voltage systems might be what I need. The safety aspect is definitely a priority. Thanks for reminding me! It helps to have someone else remind you of the fears you may have subconsciously ignored. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again for your help!
