Problems with the keyless entry system on the 2018 Mercedes GLA-Class: experiences and solutions

Hey guys, have any of you ever had problems with the keyless entry system on a 2018 Mercedes GLA Class petrol car? On my car the unlocking and locking don't work properly and the lights flicker or are dimmer at times. I think it could be the access system, but would love to hear your opinions. How did you get this fixed at the garage and what was your experience? Any tips would be great!

Hi. I had a similar problem with my 2016 Mercedes C-Class. I would consider myself someone with little "car knowledge", so it was a bit difficult for me to figure it out on my own. I took my car to the garage and after some investigation, I was told that the ECU was faulty. It ended up costing me about 1000 euros to repair, which was quite expensive, but at least the problem is fixed. To help you better, can you give a few more details about your car? For example, whether it's a diesel or gasoline version, and when exactly this problem occurs? Any information could be helpful to better diagnose the problem.

Thanks for your answer. My GLA Class is a gasoline engine. The mileage is approx. 140295km. The problem occurs rather randomly, but mostly when I want to unlock the car. My last service was about a year ago. I did a bit of searching on the internet and some people said it could be the battery in the remote or a problem with the electronics. As electronics are not exactly my strong point, I thought I'd ask the community for their experience. Of course, 10 euros is pretty steep, but the main thing is to get the problem fixed. Let's see what the garage has to say.

Hey, thanks for the additional info. I don't think your problem is necessarily related to the keyless entry system, especially because the lights are flickering or dim. I had a similar problem with my 2018 petrol GLA Class and it was down to the control unit, like my colleague here with his C-Class. The strange unlocking and the light problems came from there. It was quite a blow when I heard the repair costs, to be honest. But when I had it repaired, the problem was finally solved. Your problem could have other causes of course, but based on your description and my experience, it could be the ECU. So before you come to any conclusions, see if your garage can give you an estimate. However, bear in mind that the diagnosis will also cost money if you decide not to have the repair done there. Hope that helps you a little! And yes, the electronics in these cars can sometimes be a real headache, especially if you're not that familiar with them.

Hey, thanks for the advice and sharing your experience. That makes the decision a little easier. To be honest, I hadn't even thought about the control unit. I'll definitely take it up with the garage and get an estimate. Of course, it's annoying that the diagnostic appointment will cost something if I decide not to have it repaired there, but that's probably the way it is. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do yourself with electronics if you're not an expert. In earlier cars, you could at least change the battery yourself. It's about time I took a course in car technology, haha! I'll update you on what the garage said. Thanks again to everyone!
