Problems with the lights and the warning light in the 2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid

Hey guys, my 2007 Prius Hybrid has been acting up recently. The lights go dark or flicker and a warning light comes on in the speedometer. I somehow have the feeling that it could be due to the installed software. Have any of you ever had the same problem and perhaps know how it was fixed in the workshop? I would appreciate any experiences and tips. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid is experiencing issues with flickering lights and a warning light on the speedometer. The owner suspects a software problem but is unsure. A similar issue in a different car was resolved by replacing the engine control unit, suggesting a potential cause. It is recommended to have the car checked at a garage for an accurate diagnosis, as it could be a software issue or something else like an outdated battery.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid. Like you, I have little experience with cars, but that's what garages are for, right? In my case, the engine control unit was defective. It cost €1000, but then my car ran perfectly again. I would advise you to have your Prius checked at your nearest garage if you haven't already done so. But without more details, I can't really help you. What is the status of your battery? And what exactly does the error message say? With a little more information, I might be able to help you better. Best regards!

Hi and thanks for your reply! My battery status actually seems to be fine, I've driven the Prius to 221818 KM and the last service wasn't too long ago either. So it can only be something with the software, right? Maybe I should just make an appointment at the garage. The way you did it sounds like it worked well. Still annoying if it really does end up costing €1000. Thanks again!

You're right, it sounds expensive at first, but when the lights come back on properly and the warning light disappears, it's a reassuring feeling. Safety first, especially with older cars like ours. In my case, it was the engine control unit in the end, but that doesn't mean it's the same for you. Your Prius could, as you suggest, have a software problem, although this is actually quite rare. It could also be an outdated battery, even if your battery level looks normal. For an accurate diagnosis, I would really recommend taking your Prius to the garage. The guys there have the necessary equipment and experience to find out what's wrong with the car. And hey, maybe we're lucky and it's something small that doesn't cost that much ;-) I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! VG and keep us posted, will you?

Hey, thanks again for your help! That really calms me down a bit. I'll follow your advice and take the Prius to the garage first. Let's see what comes out of it. Let's hope that it really is something small and doesn't need any major repairs. I will definitely keep you up to date! Thanks again and see you then!
