Problems with the pre-glow relay and DPF regeneration in a Toyota Fortuner, year of manufacture 2008
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Toyota Fortuner is experiencing issues with the check engine light, black smoke from the exhaust, delayed cold starts, and malfunctioning DPF regeneration. The pre-glow light remains on, leading to suspicion of a faulty pre-glow relay. A similar case with a Toyota Land Cruiser suggested that worn glow plugs could be the cause, affecting engine combustion and DPF performance. Replacing the glow plugs is recommended as a potential solution to these problems.

Hey, thanks for the answer! That could be the case, of course, I hadn't considered it. My Fortuner already has 237635 km on the clock and the last service was a year ago. I've had the car in the garage a few times, but they couldn't really solve the problem. Now I finally know where to start. Glow plugs would definitely be worth a try. Thanks for the tip!

No problem, always happy to help! You probably know it yourself, some kind of fault always shows up from time to time. Given the mileage, it may well be that the glow plugs simply need to be replaced again. With my Land Cruiser, it was necessary after about 200000 km. New glow plugs should also solve the problem with the pre-glow relay and the pre-glow light should go out again. There could also be a connection between the glow plugs and the DPF, as poor combustion in the engine often leads to increased soot emissions, which can clog the DPF. Just make sure that you get the right glow plugs for a diesel vehicle. I hope this improves your other problems too! Keep me posted on how it goes. Good luck!

Really great, many thanks for the detailed information! Then I really will tackle this first and have the glow plugs replaced. Now that you mention it, it all makes sense with the soot emissions and the DPF. Hopefully it works out the way I think it will and solves my problems. Will get back to you with any news. Thanks again for the help!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser. I only have some experience with cars, but maybe I can help you anyway. In my case, the glow plug was defective due to wear. This activated the engine warning light. I paid about 560 euros at the garage to replace all the glow plugs and additional materials. But to share more specific details, it would be helpful to know your exact vehicle model as well as the vehicle type and engine variant. Hope this helps you!
