Problems with the transmission and transmission oil cooler in a 2017 Opel Cascada - help and tips wanted

Hi folks, my 2017 Opel Cascada with a gasoline engine has recently stopped running smoothly. The gearbox is slipping and shifting erratically, there is a grinding noise when changing gear and I keep hearing a whining or grinding noise. I suspect the transmission oil cooler is malfunctioning, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any experience with this? How have you been able to solve this in the workshop? Are there any special tips or tricks I should be aware of? Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Opel Cascada is experiencing transmission issues, including slipping, erratic shifting, and grinding noises, possibly linked to a malfunctioning transmission oil cooler. The problem seems to worsen after long highway drives, suggesting potential overheating. A similar issue in another Opel model was resolved by replacing a defective valve cable connection. It is advised to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic to diagnose and address the problem effectively.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2015 Opel Insignia. I only have a little experience with cars, so I took the car to my local mechanic. The diagnosis was "defective valve cable connection". It cost me 170,0 euros to fix it, but since then the gearbox is working fine again. Still, it could be that your problem is something else. Could you share more about the condition of your vehicle? Any additional information could help with the diagnosis. Let us know!

Thanks for your answer. My Cascada has driven 79490 km so far and the last service was about half a year ago. I have noticed that the problems occur after longer journeys on the highway, maybe it is related to overheating. Your experience gives me hope that it's nothing worse. I will definitely have it checked at the garage!

Hey, I'm glad that my experience has given you some encouragement. Your Cascada already has a few kilometers on the clock. It's quite possible that your car, just like my Insignia, simply needs a part replacing. Longer journeys on the highway can of course put more strain on the gearbox, so there could be something wrong with the overheating. Have it checked at the garage, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing serious! Keep us posted on what they say, will you? All the best!

Great, thanks for the advice! Yes, the Cascada has already done a few kilometers, but I hope it will last a while longer. I'll have it checked at the garage next week and will definitely let you know what I find out. Thanks again for your help and support! See you then!
