Problems with the warning light on VW Passat 2008 - System readiness check

Hello friends, I have a strange problem with my VW Passat 2008, gasoline engine. The warning light in the speedometer comes on, which has never happened before. I was told that it might be due to the system readiness check. Has anyone had similar experiences? How did you get it fixed at the garage and what was your experience? I would be grateful for any tips!

Summary of the thread

A 2008 VW Passat owner is experiencing a warning light issue on the speedometer, which they suspect might be related to the system readiness check. A similar problem was reported by another user with a different car model, suggesting that the issue could be linked to a recent battery replacement. The recommended solution is to visit a garage for a system check to ensure all systems are communicating properly, which resolved the issue for others without incurring costs.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi, thanks for your helpful words! I was really hoping it wasn't anything serious. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. Seems like the system readiness check could be the problem. I'm going to follow your advice and take my Passat to the garage. I'm relieved to hear that it went under goodwill with you too - hopefully I'll be as lucky! I'll get back to you as soon as I have any news. Thanks again! You've done me a big favor!

Hey buddy, I had the same problem back then. I had a similar problem with my 2007 Audi A4 petrol engine. I can still remember it well - the warning light suddenly came on and I was almost scared to death! I then drove straight to my regular garage. The guys there also said that it could be due to the system readiness check, just like yours. I have to admit, I still didn't quite understand what that meant, but I didn't want to look like a complete idiot and just nodded. So, now for the solution: they then ran some tests to see if all the systems were working properly. Seems like something wasn't communicating properly, or something like that. They fixed it and the warning light never came on again. It didn't cost me anything at the time because it was done as a goodwill gesture - cheers to my garage!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! I actually had my battery replaced a few weeks ago. My Passat has 124852 km on the clock so far and actually runs like a charm. I was totally surprised by the warning light. What exactly did you want to know? I hope it's nothing serious!

Hello, something similar happened to me with my 2006 VW Golf. I'm not a mechanic, but in my opinion your warning light could be on because the battery was recently disconnected or replaced. The garage didn't charge me a penny for it either. Give me a bit more information about your Passat and maybe I can help you more precisely! Take it easy, it'll be fine!
