Problems with Toyota Auris 2007: Jerking, uneven engine running, reduced performance, increased fuel consumption and metal shavings in the oil
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Toyota Auris is experiencing issues such as jerking during acceleration, rough engine running, reduced performance, increased fuel consumption, and metal shavings in the oil. The check engine light is also on. The suspected cause is a problem with the camshaft adjustment, possibly related to the valve mechanism. A similar issue in a related model was resolved by repairing the valve mechanism, which improved the car's performance. The suggested solution is to have the valve mechanism checked and repaired if necessary.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My Auris has pretty much 178283 km on the clock now, the last service was about 5000 km ago. The exact model type is the 1.6 V-matic with 124 hp, if that's of interest. Your comment about the valve mechanism could be on to something, that sounds pretty much like the symptoms I'm having at the moment. I'll take it to my garage and have it checked. 405 euros is a lot of money, but if it solves the problem, it would be worth it. Unfortunately, there are only two standard situations with cars: you either become poor before repairs are done, or if you don't do anything, you're left stranded on the road. So it's better to choose the lesser of two evils! Thanks again for the tip, I'll let you know what comes out of the investigation.

No problem, always happy to help! Your detailed information will help. With such a mileage and this model, it could well be that the problem lies with the valve mechanism. I can well understand that it's not exactly a bargain to have it repaired. But as you say, it's better to invest a lot of money once and then ride again without any worries. I paid 405 euros for my repair, but afterwards I was able to get back on the road with a clear conscience. Be sure to keep us up to date on what comes out of your Auris and whether it really was the valve mechanism. Good luck with the repair!

Hey, thanks for the good wishes! I'll definitely do it, I'll keep you posted on the repair. Let's hope it really is the valve mechanism and not something else. But as you say, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and spend a bit more money. Better that than being on the street later. See you then and thanks again for the help!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Toyota Corolla, which is a generation older, but the brother of your Auris, so to speak. I'm not a car expert, but I do have a bit of experience with cars and their ailments. My garage checked the valve mechanism at the time and discovered that it had run in/was defective. As a result, my engine showed similar symptoms to your Auris. The repair itself cost me 405.0 euros, which shocked me at first, but I was glad that the problem was fixed afterwards and the car ran smoothly again. It would be helpful if you could give a few more details about your vehicle, e.g. the exact model and so on. This will also determine what exactly could be the cause and what repair options are appropriate. I hope this helps you a little.
