Problems with Toyota Auris Diesel 2018: Black smoke, engine light, loss of power and rough running

Check engine light on

Whistling noise

Shaking while idling

Stalling while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loud hissing on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2018 Toyota Auris diesel. When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the engine light comes on, there is a loss of power, the engine runs rough, it jerks when accelerating, makes loud hissing noises, stalls at idle, shakes at idle and whistles. It has occurred to me that the position sensor of the boost pressure control could be defective. Do you have any experience with similar symptoms and how did you have the problem solved in the workshop? Please share your experiences with me. Thank you!

Hi, I also have a Toyota, but mine is a 2017 Corolla Diesel. I'm not a car mechanic or anything, but I have had some experience with cars. I also had a similar problem with my Corolla once. The reason was a defective boost pressure regulator. The garage connected the diagnostic device and was able to find the fault quickly. I had to pay around 1520 euros for the repair. After that, the car ran like clockwork again. Could you perhaps tell us a bit more about your car? For example, what mileage it has, whether you have serviced it regularly and so on? That would certainly help to narrow down the problem more precisely. Hope this helps you!

Hello, thank you for your answer. My Auris has 228012 KM on the clock so far. I did the last service a few months ago, after that I haven't had any problems so far. Hope it's just the boost pressure regulator, sounds like an expensive repair, but if it solves that, I'd be happy. Best regards!

Yes, the mileage is quite high. But with regular maintenance and care, a Toyota can provide many years of good service. If in doubt, I would definitely visit a workshop before any further damage occurs. Of course, there could also be other reasons why your engine is showing the symptoms mentioned. A defective mass air flow sensor or a dirty EGR valve can also lead to such problems. A workshop can tell you whether it really is the boost pressure regulator after a detailed inspection. Unfortunately, as you have already said, the cost of the repair is not exactly low. But if it solves the problem, it's definitely worth it. I hope I have been able to help you and that the problem will soon be solved. Have a safe journey!
