Problems with Toyota Crown 2015: Black smoke, loss of engine power and exhaust leak
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Toyota Crown is experiencing black smoke during acceleration, a check engine light, loss of engine power, and an exhaust leak, possibly due to a malfunction in the exhaust aftertreatment system. Potential causes include defective lambda sensors, clogged injectors, a faulty ignition distributor, or an outdated fuel-air system. Suggested solutions include conducting a diagnostic test to identify fault codes and consulting a garage to check and possibly replace the lambda sensors. Additionally, checking insurance coverage for such repairs is advised.

Hello, thanks for the answer! My last service was at 94286 km and since then this problem has occurred. No, I haven't done a diagnostic test because I'm afraid the cost might be high. But following your advice, I should probably have one done. I also wasn't sure if the garage had the right parts in case a replacement was needed, but I suppose that's something I'd have to check with them. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem! If your Toyota is in the similar mileage range as my Land Cruiser, I would definitely recommend getting a diagnostic test done. There could be several reasons for these symptoms, and it would be best to find out exactly what the problem is before you spend money on parts you may not need. The spare parts thing was the same for me. I was lucky that my garage had the right lambda sensors in stock, but of course this can vary depending on the model. I would simply call your garage in advance and ask if they have the parts in stock or could order them. However, combustion problems can also have other causes, such as clogged injectors, a defective ignition distributor or an outdated fuel-air system. Another little tip on the side - it might be worth having insurance that covers such repairs. Hope that helps you. You can handle it!

Yes, that was very helpful. I will take your advice to heart and get a diagnostic test done and then talk to my garage about replacing the lambda sensors if necessary. It sounds like I should address my concerns about whether they have the right parts. The insurance thing is a good point too. I don't think my current insurance covers such repairs, so it might be worth reconsidering. Thanks for your advice and words of encouragement - I think I feel a little better about dealing with the situation now!

Hi, this reminds me of my own car, a 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser, with which I had similar symptoms. At my level of car knowledge, I would rate my experience as poor. The problem was probably a defect in one of the lambda sensors. They worked perfectly after I had them replaced with new ones in my garage. The total cost was around 375.0 euros. It would be helpful if you could share more details about your vehicle. Any additional information can help to better understand the problem and hopefully help you in more detail. Have you done a diagnostic test to see what fault codes are displayed?
