Problems with Toyota GT86 from 2016: Engine light, loss of power and severe jerking

Hey guys, my 2016 Toyota GT86 with gasoline engine is having some weird problems. The engine light comes on, the engine shuts off by itself, loses power and just runs rough. When accelerating, the thing jerks and also takes far too much fuel. The car even wobbles when idling. I suspect that it might have something to do with the crankcase ventilation. Have you had similar experiences and could you perhaps give me a few tips to narrow down the problem? How was this solved in your workshop and what were your experiences? It would be really great if you could help me!

Hey buddy, I had a similar problem with my 2018 Toyota Corolla, which is only two years younger. I'm not a car mechanic but have a bit of experience with cars. It sounds like your crankcase breather is faulty, just like mine. They confirmed it at my garage and fixed it. It cost me 360 euros, but afterwards everything was tip-top again. It helped me to discuss the exact model and vehicle data with the workshop. That might also help you to better understand what's going on. Can you tell me a bit more about your car? Maybe then I can help you better.

Hey, thanks for the answer! My GT86 has been running for 107495 km and the last inspection was at 101000 km. So it's possible that it's really the crankcase ventilation that's causing the problem. I will follow your advice and bring this up at the next workshop visit. Your experience has helped me a lot. Thank you very much!

Hey, no problem, glad I could help! With such a high mileage, it is of course possible that individual parts such as the crankcase ventilation, which are in constant use, can cause problems. Your symptoms sound very similar to me. Be sure to mention this the next time you're at the garage. I hope your GT86 runs smoothly again soon. Feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions. I wish you every success!
