Hi, thanks for the quick reply. So my Hiace has a 2.7 liter engine and now has almost 99,500 kilometers on it. The last service was only at 95,000 kilometers, so everything still seemed to be in order. The mechanic did say that the exhaust would have to be changed soon, but it wasn't that urgent. Your tip is really good, maybe I should have the cable connections checked. 95 euros would be a good price if that solves the problem. Do you have any other ideas?

First of all: with so many symptoms, there could honestly be many possible causes, I can only tell you about my experience with my old RAV4. In my car, it was the spark plugs, the cable connections and a clogged injector. Because the engine was running rough and smelled strange, I made an appointment with a garage. The guys found the problem and fixed it. If you say that your Toyota is consuming more fuel and the engine light is on, this could be a sign that the combustion in the engine is no longer working properly. Faulty spark plugs or ignition cables, a dirty injector or a faulty sensor could be responsible. I had this once - an injector was clogged. What I want to say is that there are often many small problems that then add up to the big picture. In your case, it could be the defective exhaust, the sensor and perhaps something with the fuel system or the ignition cables. But it's better to have this checked by a professional. I hope this helps you a little. Find what you're looking for and don't worry - your Toyota is a robust thing. You can fix it!

Hi, wow, thank you so much for your detailed answer! That all sounds pretty plausible and I will follow your advice and have it checked by a professional. I didn't realize that so many little things could lead to such big problems. I agree, at the end of the day my Toyota is a really robust car. With any luck I'll find a solution quickly. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!

Hello, I once had a similar problem with my 2004 Toyota RAV4. I am not a professional, but have only limited experience with cars. At my garage, they found that the cable connections were defective. The repair cost me 95.0 euros. Can you please give us more information about your vehicle, such as the exact engine type, so that we can help you more accurately?
