Problems with Toyota Highlander 2019: Check Engine light, power loss and increased fuel consumption
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota Highlander is experiencing issues such as the check engine light being on, power loss, jerking during acceleration, high fuel consumption, and strange engine noises. The suspected cause is knocking combustion in at least one cylinder. A similar issue in a 2017 Toyota RAV4 was resolved by addressing deposits in the combustion chamber, suggesting a potential solution. It is recommended to take the vehicle to a garage for professional diagnostics and repair.

Thanks for the answer! I haven't tried anything on my own to fix the problem yet. But I guess you're right, it's probably best to take it to the garage. About the mileage: My Highlander now has 43059 KM on the clock and the last service was about 3000 KM ago. Hopefully that will help you. It's really great that you were able to reply so quickly!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for. At around 43000 KM, a deposit in the combustion chambers could actually be the reason for the symptoms you describe, similar to my RAV4. If I were you, I wouldn't hesitate and take the car to the workshop as soon as possible. These days, it's quite difficult to solve such problems yourself without professional diagnostic equipment. And just look at it this way: If it is indeed this problem, you've got me and my €425 experience behind you to get a feel for how much it might cost. But like I said, every situation is unique and it could of course be something completely different. I hope this helps you. Please give us an update on how it went. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the detailed answer and advice. It's super helpful and I really appreciate it. I will take my car to the garage as soon as possible and hope it's just deposits in the combustion chambers. Your €425 experience definitely gives me a good indication of what to expect cost wise. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again and all the best!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2017 Toyota RAV4, my knowledge of cars is average so I went straight to a garage. They did some diagnostics and found that the deposits in the combustion chamber were to blame. I paid 425.0 euros to fix the problem, which thankfully resulted in my car running perfectly again. It could be that it's the same problem with your car, but every situation is unique. I'm sure you need to take your car to a garage to get it checked out properly. Would it be possible to get a few more details about your car, such as the exact mileage and whether you've tried anything else to fix the problem? That might help me answer you more accurately. Good luck!
