Problems with Toyota Yaris Diesel 2006: Unsteady engine, jerking and hissing noises
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota Yaris Diesel is experiencing issues such as unsteady engine performance, jerking during acceleration, and a loud hissing noise, along with the check engine light being on. The suspected cause is a fault in the swirl flap control on the intake manifold. A similar issue was resolved in a 2004 Toyota Corolla Diesel by repairing the swirl flap, which improved the car's performance. It is recommended to consult a garage to confirm the diagnosis and address the problem promptly to avoid further complications.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply, really cool of you! So my Yaris has 48166 KM on the clock and the last service was recently, but everything still fit perfectly. I actually thought it would last a while now... Well, I'll keep your experience in mind and maybe ask the garage. Thanks again!

No problem, buddy, that's what we're here for! With your low mileage, it could actually be the swirl flap. Maybe it was already a bit weak and has now completely given up the ghost. It started happening to me all of a sudden too. I was really surprised, as my Corolla had only done around 50,000 km when it happened. Fortunately, you discovered the problem early enough and can now take action. Drop by the garage and tell them exactly the problems you are describing here. That also helped me back then. The 800+ euros are not without cost, but after that you should have peace of mind. I can't wait to see what the workshop says. Keep your fingers crossed, buddy!

Hi, great that you replied so quickly! I was also hoping that it might be the swirl flap. Wouldn't have thought that it could affect you even with low mileage. That's really annoying. To be honest, I was hoping I could avoid the expensive repair, but as you say, better to act now before it gets worse. I'll go there tomorrow and tell them exactly what I wrote to you. I'm really curious to see what they say. Thank you very much for the tip and for encouraging me to tackle this! Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed!

Hi buddy, I can totally understand you, I had exactly the same problems with my 2004 Toyota Corolla Diesel. I certainly don't have the most experience with cars, but I would describe myself as advanced. And yes, it was indeed the problem with the swirl flap - it was broken. The trip to my garage confirmed this. The whole thing cost me around 865.0 euros. It's not exactly cheap, but afterwards my car was in top shape again. It would be helpful if you could give me more information about your car. Mileage? Service history? That may help to narrow down the problem. Hope that helps you out, buddy.
