(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Ford Escape owner is experiencing jerky transmission shifts and grinding noises, suspecting a torque converter lock-up clutch issue. A similar problem in a Ford Focus was resolved by replacing a defective automatic transmission converter. The suggested solution is to take the vehicle to a garage for a professional diagnosis, as it could be a transmission issue or something else. The owner plans to have the car checked, hoping for a minor issue and manageable repair costs.

Hi and thanks for your quick reply! I checked my data after your message and noticed that my Escape already has 54994 km on the clock. The last service was recently, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. But maybe it does have something to do with it. In any case, what you said about your experience was very helpful! I think I'll take it to a garage and have it checked. Hopefully the costs won't be that high. Thanks again for your help!

No problem, I'm glad I could help! Given the mileage, it could well be that there's a problem with the gearbox, but as I said, I'm not an expert. But you really should have it checked. And depending on whether the car is still under warranty or not, the costs could vary. Unfortunately, the warranty didn't apply to my Focus because I bought the car second-hand. But it was worth having it repaired. Since then, the noises have gone and the gearbox is running perfectly again. I also know now that I should pay more attention to warning signals. So, don't be discouraged and definitely make an appointment with the garage! Maybe you'll be lucky and it's just a minor issue. All the best and let me know what happens!

Hey, thanks again for the support and kind words! Your story has given me courage and I will definitely make an appointment at the garage now. Of course I hope it won't be that expensive, but safety comes first after all. It's a shame that cars can sometimes be so complicated. I'm curious to see what the mechanic will say in the end. I'll keep you up to date in any case. Thanks again and see you then!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my Ford Focus, 2016 model, an older model from the same manufacturer. I'm not a mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience with cars. When I had the problem, I took it to a reputable garage. They analyzed the automatic transmission and found that the automatic transmission converter was defective. The repair cost me 2120 euros, but after that everything was back to normal. However, you may also have other problems, so it would be helpful if you could share more information about your vehicle. What is the general condition? Are there any warning messages? Does the vehicle have any other symptoms that could indicate this problem? So my tip would be to take the car to the garage for an accurate diagnosis and then see what happens. It's certainly expensive, but it's also safer. Good luck with that!
