Problems with Viano Diesel (2011): Grinding noises when changing gear, irregular gear changes and possible malfunction in gearbox oil pressure sensor
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Viano diesel is experiencing grinding noises when shifting gears, irregular gear changes, and a warning indicator on the speedometer. These issues may be linked to a malfunction in the transmission oil pressure sensor. Suggested solutions include changing the transmission oil and checking the pressure sensor, as well as investigating potential fuel injection problems due to high fuel consumption and power loss. A specialist workshop diagnosis is recommended for accurate identification and resolution of the issues.

Hey, thanks for your reply. The mileage of my Viano is now 1158 km. Any other symptoms? Well, the fuel consumption seems to be a bit high and the engine sometimes loses power, especially when I'm stuck in traffic. Other than that, there were no particular incidents at the last inspection. They changed the brake pedal and cleaned the air filter. Thanks again for your help, take care!

Hey, thanks for the additional info! The diagnosis in your case could be a bit complex as the symptoms are quite varied. If the transmission shifts and grinds irregularly, and you also have a warning display on the speedometer, a malfunction of the transmission oil pressure sensor may be a possibility. However, this was not the case with my Vito, so I cannot confirm this with certainty. Higher fuel consumption and loss of power could indicate a problem with the fuel injection. However, this requires a more precise diagnosis by a specialist workshop. In any case, I would have the transmission oil changed and the pressure sensor checked. This can be detected relatively easily using a diagnostic device. I hope I have been able to help, even if this is perhaps not the answer you were hoping for. Let us know what happens next! All the best for the repair and have a safe journey.

Hey, thanks for the detailed reply and the helpful advice. I will definitely have the transmission oil changed and have the pressure sensor checked. I'll also find out about the fuel injection, sounds sensible. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. See you then and thanks again!

Hey, I had a similar case with my Vito Diesel (2013). I'm not a real car mechanic, but I know a bit about it because I like tinkering with my cars. At my garage, they replaced the transmission control unit because it was broken. It wasn't an easy decision as it cost me 1000 euros in total. To help you more precisely, I would need some more information about your vehicle. For example, are there any other symptoms or have you recently carried out maintenance work? This would enable me to help you better.
