PT Cruiser Door Locks Dead: Central System Failure Fix

Last serviced at 49634 KM, and I can confirm this seems like a widespread issue with these models. After investigating further, I discovered my problem was related to a blown fuse in the main fuse box controlling the central locking system. Before spending money at a shop, definitely check fuse number 24 (10A) which controls the keyless entry and central locking mechanism. If the fuse is good, the issue might be in the control module like others mentioned. The security system often acts up when the module starts failing. In my case, replacing the control module fixed both the central locking and restored normal operation of all door locks. Has anyone checked if there are any technical service bulletins related to this security system issue for the 2005 model year?

Yes, there were several technical service bulletins for the 2003-2005 PT Cruiser models regarding the security system and door locks. After fixing my central locking issues, I did more research and found these problems were quite common. While your fuse box diagnosis was spot-on, I discovered an additional detail that might help others. The control module problems often stem from water damage due to a faulty door seal. When I replaced my module, the technician showed me corrosion in the connectors caused by moisture. My car had similar symptoms, the keyless entry stopped working completely, and the security system would trigger out of nowhere. The repair shop confirmed checking fuse #24 should always be the first step, followed by testing the door lock actuators if the fuse is good. From what I learned, these issues typically follow a pattern: First, intermittent keyless entry failures, Then complete central locking system failure, Finally, security system malfunctions For anyone else dealing with this, make sure to also check the wire harness in the driver door jamb. The constant opening and closing can wear through the protective covering, causing shorts in the car locks system.

Thanks for the detailed information about the PT Cruiser electrical issues. After getting my car back from the shop today, I can now share more details about my specific repair journey that might help others. The car alarm would out of nowhere activate and the central locking system remained completely dead, even after replacing fuse #24 in the fuse box. My mechanic found that water had indeed damaged the control module wiring, just as others described. The keyless entry system was also affected by the corroded connections. Total repair costs came to 320€, which included: New control module, Replacement of damaged wiring, New door seals to prevent future water damage, Labor for installation and testing The remote locking now works perfectly and the security system is back to normal operation. This repair definitely cost more than just a fuse replacement, but it addressed the root cause and should prevent future issues. Would be interested to know if anyone else had success with aftermarket control modules? The original equipment manufacturer parts were quite expensive, and I wonder if there are reliable alternatives.

Had this exact issue with my 2003 PT Cruiser, and have some experience working with car locks and electrical systems. The remote locking system completely failed, and none of the door locks would respond, sounds identical to your problem. After checking the basics like the key fob battery, I took it to my regular workshop. They diagnosed a faulty wiring connection between the central locking control module and the door actuators. The repair involved replacing damaged wiring and a loose connector in the driver side door. Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. The keyless entry system worked flawlessly after the fix. To better assist with your specific case: Does the security system alarm still work? Can you hear any clicking sounds when pressing the remote? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Which transmission does your PT Cruiser have? These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I encountered. The central locking systems on these models are known to develop wiring issues, especially around the door harnesses.
