Puma automatic transmission shifting issues

Hi, my 2000 Ford Puma with a gasoline engine is giving me some grief. It has 110110 km on the clock. The automatic transmission is acting up – shifting feels off, the transmission light is on, and it's not shifting smoothly. Sometimes it even goes into emergency mode. Could worn-out transmission oil be the culprit?

Hey! I've got a Puma too, and your problems sound very familiar. When my transmission indicator light came on together with implausible shifting behavior, I would've bet on a faulty sensor or something. Did you check the hydraulic fluid level?

Thanks for the quick response! I did check the fluid level, and it seemed okay. What exactly was wrong with yours? Was it also behaving weirdly sometimes?

Yes, that's exactly how it was! It turned out the undervoltage in the vehicle caused the transmission to act up, so the mechanic did a transmission flush and replaced the oil. Afterward, it was like new. I suggest you let a workshop check it out.

Thanks a bunch! I took your advice and had a mechanic look at it. Turns out, you were spot on. Oil replacement fixed the shifting issues. Cost me about 240€, but worth it. Appreciate the help!
