Puma electronic parking brake failure
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Ford Puma diesel is experiencing an unresponsive electronic parking brake, with a warning light on the speedometer. The issue could stem from a brake diagnostics problem, a system glitch, or a faulty brake sensor. The lack of noise from the callipers suggests a likely failure of the electric motor in the brake calliper. The recommended solution is to replace the entire calliper unit, which resolved the issue after being addressed at a garage.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, the error memory does point to a problem with the parking brake system, but not much beyond that. I can't hear any noise at all coming from the callipers when I try to use the handbrake – total silence. If it is the motor, is that a whole calliper replacement job, or can you swap just the motor itself?

Total silence is not a good sign. Sadly, it usually means the motor is toast. You might be able to find a replacement motor, but honestly, it's generally recommended to replace the whole calliper as a unit. Less hassle, less chance of future problems. It's looking like a trip to the workshop is in order, I'm afraid.

Cheers for the confirmation. Took it to the garage, and you were spot on - defective electric motor in the brake calliper. New calliper fitted, error codes cleared, and all working again. Cost me 505€ all in, but at least it's sorted! Thanks again for your help.

Sounds like a right pain! Electronic parking brakes are usually pretty reliable, but when they go wrong, they really go wrong. Does the error memory have anything specific stored? Could be a brake switch issue, but honestly, my gut says it's more likely the electric motor in the brake calliper. Is it making any noises when you try to engage/disengage the brake?
