Punto engine stalling

I'm having a nightmare with my 2005 Fiat Punto, gasoline engine. The engine keeps stalling at idle, which is a real pain! The check engine light is on, and I scanned it and there's an error stored. I'm no mechanic, but I'm guessing it's something to do with the air intake being gunked up. Anyone else had this?

Sounds like a bad idle air control valve. Is the throttle body also dirty? That can cause similar issues. When was the last time you cleaned it?

Throttle body, huh? I haven't touched that thing since I bought the car! Where exactly is it, and is it something I can clean myself, or am I just asking for more trouble?

Yeah, a dirty throttle body will mess with your idle for sure. If you're not confident working on it, honestly, it might be best to get a mechanic to take a look. You could end up making things worse!

I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was the idle air control valve, and the intake was heavily contaminated, just like I thought. Cost me 425€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again!
