Punto Overheating and Coolant Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Fiat Punto is experiencing engine overheating and a coolant leak, with the check engine light on. The issue is suspected to be due to excessive pressure in the cooling system. A similar problem in another vehicle was caused by a defective plug connection on the control module. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked at a workshop, where it was confirmed to be a defective cable connection, which was then repaired.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the diagnostic trouble code yet. But, where should I start looking for a potential wiring issue or communication fault?

On my Astra, the problem was a defective plug connection on the control module. Given your symptoms, especially the overheating, I'd highly recommend getting it checked at a workshop. Could be a loose connection somewhere, but better safe than sorry. It would be very difficult to diagnose it without proper tools.

Thanks a lot for your help! I took it to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed a defective cable connection, just like you suspected. Repair cost me 95€. Appreciate your advice!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra, though it was a diesel. Check engine light, overheating... turned out to be a control unit communication error. Do you have a diagnostic trouble code?
