Punto Power Steering Vibration
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2000 Fiat Punto experiencing power steering issues, characterized by a vibrating steering wheel and spongy handling. The problem was suspected to be due to a faulty cable or plug connection, as the hydraulic fluid level was fine. A suggestion was made to check the pressure hose for leaks or kinks, but ultimately, a mechanic confirmed and fixed a faulty connection, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the pressure hose specifically. Where is it located? Is it easy to access and inspect?

It runs from the pump to the steering rack. You should be able to see it from underneath the car. But honestly, I'd get it checked at a workshop. It could be a lot of things, and you don't want to mess with the steering system yourself if you're not sure.

Thanks! I took your advice and brought it to a local mechanic. Turns out it was indeed a faulty connection, like I suspected. They cleaned it up and secured it properly. Total cost was 95€. Steering is back to normal now!

I had a similar issue with my Punto. Same symptoms, vibrating steering and heavy steering at times. Never scanned it for codes though. Have you checked the pressure hose for any leaks or kinks? That's where I'd start.
