Q2 Airbag Warning: Rollover Sensor Malfunction Fix

Looking for insights on a recurring airbag warning issue in my 2019 Q2. The SRS sensor warning light stays on in the instrument cluster, and error scanning points toward a rollover sensor problem. Has anyone dealt with a similar automotive sensor malfunction? Would appreciate hearing about repair experiences, especially regarding airbag sensor diagnostics and what the fix involved. My main concern is safety-related since the crash detection system might be compromised. Did the repair require sensor replacement or was there another solution?

I dealt with a similar tilt sensor issue in my 2017 Q3, and as someone with moderate experience working on cars, I can share some insights about the safety system repair process. The SRS sensor warning light also remained constantly illuminated in my instrument cluster. After proper diagnostics, it turned out the control unit managing the rollover detection was indeed defective, compromising the vehicle safety systems. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan of the safety system, Removal of the center console to access the sensor assembly, Replacement of the defective control unit, System recalibration and testing Total repair cost was 1000 Euro at a specialized workshop. The work took about 4 hours, and they had to order the specific part. The fix has been solid for 2 years now with no recurring sensor failure issues. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Has the warning light behavior changed since it first appeared? Were there any impacts or water damage before the issue started? Have you had any recent work done near the center console? What specific error codes are you getting?

Thanks for the detailed response. My vehicle has 27538 KM and had its last service 2 months ago. The vehicle rollover warning showed up shortly after. I ran another scan and got error code G419, pointing to a malfunction in the SRS sensor system. The warning light behavior has been consistent, always on after starting the car. No physical damage or prior work near the center console area where the tilt sensor is located. Interesting to hear about your experience with the safety system repair, as the symptoms match exactly what I am seeing. Will probably need to bite the bullet and get the sensor replaced to restore proper function of the crash detection systems.

Good to hear back from you about the G419 error code. This definitely confirms my initial suspicion about the SRS sensor system. The timing after your service is interesting, in my case with the Q3, we discovered that disturbance of nearby components during routine maintenance can sometimes trigger airbag sensor issues. Since your symptoms match my experience so closely, particularly with the consistent warning light and the tilt sensor error, you are likely looking at a similar repair path. The good news is that the safety system repair was straightforward once the correct diagnosis was confirmed. Just be aware that proper calibration of the new sensor is crucial. When I had mine done, they explained that the tilt sensor must be programmed specifically to your vehicle model to ensure proper crash detection function. The airbag sensor system is quite sensitive, and even slight miscalibration can trigger warning lights. One thing I would suggest before proceeding, have them check the wiring harness connections to the SRS sensor. In rare cases, I learned that disconnected or damaged wiring can mimic a failed sensor. This quick check could save you the cost of unnecessary parts replacement. Would you mind updating the thread once you get it looked at? It would be helpful to know if your repair cost and process end up being similar to what I experienced with my Q3.

Thanks for sharing your sensor installation experience. Based on your information, I am already scheduling an appointment for next week. Just spoke with the workshop, and their initial estimate for the safety system repair matches your cost range of around 1000 Euro. They confirmed they will do a full inspection of the wiring harness before proceeding with any rollover sensor replacement, which I appreciate given your advice. The vehicle rollover warning has remained unchanged, so I agree it is likely the same issue you faced. Makes sense about the calibration requirements, I will make sure to specifically ask about proper sensor calibration when I take it in. Very helpful to know about the programming needs for the tilt sensor to work correctly with the crash detection system. I will definitely update once the repair is complete to confirm if the fix involved similar steps and costs. For now, I am just glad to have confirmation that this is a known issue with a clear repair path. The consistent symptoms and matching error codes give me confidence we have identified the root cause of the sensor failure.
