Q2 Engine Jerking & Misfiring, Ignition Coil Warning Signs

Thanks for sharing that experience with the A3. Mine started acting up similarly, rough idle and jerking on acceleration with the check engine light. Got it fixed last month and the mechanic also found multiple issues with spark plugs and a crankshaft sensor that needed replacing. The air filter was pretty clogged too, causing more stress on the engine. Really helped having that timing belt inspection done while they were at it. Mind sharing what the total repair cost was for your case? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix? Always good to know if any follow-up issues popped up.

Thanks for the update on your Q2 repairs. My A3 repair bill came to 780 Euro for the full service, new spark plugs, coils and injector cleaning. The rough idle and engine misfire issues completely disappeared after the fix. I actually had another issue come up later, an exhaust leak causing a ticking sound. The oxygen sensor readings were off because of it. Got that patched up last week for 265 Euro and now the engine runs perfectly smooth again. Good call on getting that timing belt checked while they were working on it. Catching worn components early usually prevents more expensive repairs down the line. Running strong for 6 months now with no check engine lights or performance issues. Make sure to keep an eye on those spark plugs going forward, they tend to need replacement around the same mileage intervals to prevent misfires from recurring.

Thanks for the input. After dealing with those sketchy mechanics before, I finally found a reliable shop that diagnosed and fixed everything properly. My final repair bill came to 850 Euro which included new spark plugs, crankshaft sensor, air filter and a thorough fuel injector cleaning. The rough idle completely disappeared and acceleration is smooth again. The fuel pump pressure test they did also showed everything was working correctly. They actually found the old spark plugs were completely worn out and two were misfiring badly. Glad I got it sorted before any damage happened to the oxygen sensor or catalytic converter. Been driving for 3 weeks now without any check engine lights or jerking. The engine runs so much better, almost like new. Will definitely stick with this shop for future maintenance.

Had similar symptoms with my A3 2019 gasoline engine. The jerking during acceleration combined with the check engine light pointed to engine misfires. In my case, two ignition coils failed, causing inconsistent spark delivery to the cylinders. The diagnosis revealed the following cascade of issues: Worn spark plugs contributing to incomplete combustion, Failed ignition coils unable to deliver proper voltage, Engine misfires particularly noticeable during acceleration, Fuel injectors needed cleaning due to carbon buildup The repair involved replacing all spark plugs and ignition coils as a set to ensure consistent performance. The fuel injectors also received a thorough cleaning. This was classified as a serious issue since continuing to drive with misfires can damage the catalytic converter. Recommend getting it checked soon, as driving with misfiring cylinders can lead to more expensive repairs. The timing of these symptoms at 152000km is typical for these components to show wear. A qualified technician can quickly confirm the diagnosis by reading the error codes and performing a cylinder misfire test.
