Q4 e-tron AC Failure: EV Climate Control Repair Guide

Hi, my automatic climate control system started acting up in my 2021 Audi Q4 e-tron (156000km). The AC doesnt cool anymore and the system shows an error code. I suspect its related to the rear air distribution flaps, but I had a bad experience with my last mechanic and want to be prepared before going in. Has anyone dealt with similar climate control issues in their Q4? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking especially for feedback from other EV owners who had their system diagnostics done.

The symptoms you describe with the AC and error code match what I experienced with my 2018 Audi e-tron. The issue turned out to be a faulty flap actuator in the HVAC system that controls air distribution. The automatic climate control system relies on multiple flap motors and actuators working together. When one fails, the entire system can show errors and stop functioning properly. In my case, the issue was traced to a damaged wiring connector at the actuator, which caused intermittent failures. This is a relatively common issue in modern climate control systems. The repair requires accessing the dash area to replace the flap actuator and associated wiring. Its important to have proper diagnostics done, as similar symptoms can also be caused by other components in the air distribution system. While not a severe mechanical issue, its best addressed promptly to prevent strain on other HVAC components. The repair should be handled by a shop familiar with EV climate control systems, as accessing components differs from conventional vehicles.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had a very similar problem with my Audi Q4 e tron where the automatic climate stopped cooling properly. The air distribution system was indeed the culprit, specifically the actuator motor that controls airflow to rear passengers. Would you mind sharing what the final repair cost was for your fix? The system diagnostics at my dealer found additional wear on some related components that needed attention. Curious if you encountered any follow-up issues since the repair was completed? When these automatic climate problems start, its best to get a full checkup of the air conditioning system to prevent cascading failures.

Good news, got my flap actuator issue fully resolved. The mechanic found a damaged wire connection near the rear ventilation flap that was causing the climate control malfunction. Total repair came to 95 Euro, which covered fixing the faulty cable connection. The automatic climate system has worked flawlessly since the repair. No additional components needed replacement, and the system diagnostics showed everything working properly afterward. The air distribution to rear passengers is now functioning exactly as it should. This type of repair is typically straightforward once properly diagnosed. Having it fixed promptly helped avoid any secondary issues with other climate control components. Been about 6 months now with zero problems, the cooling performance is back to normal and no error codes have returned.

Thanks everyone for the helpful input. I finally got my AC fixed last week and wanted to share my experience. The repair was actually more involved than expected, the system diagnostics revealed not just one but two faulty flap actuators affecting the air circulation. The total repair came to 280 Euro, which included replacing both actuators and a thorough check of the entire automatic climate system. While this was more than I hoped to spend, at least the cooling is working perfectly now. The air distribution is even better than before, especially for rear passengers. Found a specialized EV mechanic who really knew their stuff about climate control systems. They took time explaining exactly what was wrong and showed me the worn components. Much better experience than my previous repair attempts. Just glad to have proper cooling again before the warm weather hits. If anyone else runs into similar issues, definitely worth getting the full system diagnostics done right away rather than waiting.
